A guide to high-temperature resistant coatings

High-temperature resistant coatings are a specialist coating system that is designed to withstand temperatures typically ranging from 120°C (250°F) to over 760°C (1,400°F). Consequently, their use is critical for a variety of industries and markets that intend to prevent corrosion of steel equipment and applications that are subjected to extreme temperatures.

As Wagon Paints is an exclusive Australian distributor for Performance Polymers who are the developers of the Thermaguard high-temperature resistant coatings, we have prepared this guide to our range of specialist coatings.

Introduction to Thermaguard high-temperature resistant coatings

The Thermaguard high-temperature resistant coatings systems are frequently used in industries such as military, aerospace, manufacturing, petrochemical and power industries for piping, fireproofing, jet engines and offshore rigs. As such, one of the largest users of high-temperature resistant coatings is processing facilities such as power plants and refineries which often have an extensive network of piping, vessels and tanks.

Our range of Thermaguard coatings includes Corrosion Under Insulation mitigation, high-temperature coatings, spray-on (liquid applied) insulation and generic high-temperature resistant coatings.

Thermaguard TC 1200

The Thermaguard TC 1200 is a single-component and heat-resistant polysiloxane topcoat. A polysiloxane coating is an industrial protective coating application typically used in services characterized by a high risk of abrasion, chemical exposure, extreme UV and high temperatures.

These high-temperature resistant coatings systems can be operated within a cryogenic -196ºC to an extremely high 650ºC temperature range. The coating system comes in a full range of safety colours and RAL shades, and custom colours that can be formulated on request.

Appropriate applications include:

  • Safety recognition of equipment
  • Flares
  • Tanks
  • Chimneys
  • Pipework
  • Steam-lines
  • Stacks
  • Valves

Thermaguard TIC 180

Thermaguard TIC 180 is a single-component, water-based and ceramic-filled acrylic Thermal Insulation Coating (TIC). It is a high-performing, water-resistant insulation film that can improve energy efficiency. It is designed to prevent Corrosion Under Insulation, reduce condensation build up and provide personal protection.

These particular high temperature-resistant coatings are resistant to temperatures up to 180ºC, acting as more of a thermal barrier, intended to protect interior temperatures against cold, warm and humid weather conditions. It has high corrosion resistance and good chemical resistance.

Appropriate applications include:

  • Petrochemical & chemical plants
  • Power, refining & generic processing plants
  • Pipelines, steam lines & pressure valves
  • Chimneys, tanks & heat exchanges
  • Commercial constructions
  • Storage facilities
  • Roofing

Thermaguard TIC 400

Similar to Thermaguard TIC 180, the Thermaguard TIC 400 is a single-component and water-based Thermal Insulation Coating (TIC). It is an ultra-high-build inorganic polymeric siloxane matrix designed for elevated temperatures. The coating system is designed to provide a seamless, hydrophobic, weather-resistant insulation film, with operating temperatures from -60 to 400ºC.

Acting as more of a thermal barrier, the coating system is intended to protect interior temperatures against cold, warm and humid weather conditions. It can improve energy efficiency, prevent Corrosion Under Insulation (CUI), reduce condensation build-up & provide personal protection.  It has high corrosion resistance and good chemical resistance.

Appropriate applications include:

  • Petrochemical & chemical plants
  • Power, refining & generic processing plants
  • Pipelines, steam lines & pressure valves
  • Chimneys, tanks & heat exchanges
  • Commercial constructions
  • Manufacturing facilities
  • Floating equipment, vessels & barges
  • Roofing
